‘Ralph Breaks the Internet’ – A Surprising, and Slightly Scary, Source of Inspiration

Here's a scary thought on this Halloween. Did you know that all Internet communications in North America run through a single building … and that they let filmmakers in that place?!

In part three of my six-part conversation with "Ralph Breaks the Internet" producer Clark Spencer ("Lilo & Stich," "Bolt," "Winnie the Pooh," "Wreck-It Ralph" and "Zootopia"), the Oscar winner recalls his team's research trip to a Los Angeles office tower that helped shape the filmmakers' vision for the physical world of the Internet.

Look for a new clip from our conversation here on the Disney Parks Blog each Wednesday until "Ralph Breaks the Internet" opens in theaters on Nov. 21.

Wildlife Wednesday: Disney’s Animal Kingdom Celebrates Halloween with Pumpkins

At Disney's Animal Kingdom, we know the importance of taking a break from the every day for some fun. For animals in our care, this fun comes in the form of enrichment, and it plays an important part in their day-to-day routine with mental and physical activities that appeal to the animals' behaviors. With Halloween and fall in full swing, we're celebrating the spirit of the season in our enrichment by crafting some pumpkin treats.

Our animal care team looks forward to decorating the pumpkins each year and coming up with new, novel ways to excite and encourage play and foraging behaviors among the animals. Some of the keepers even add bugs, worms and other tasty treats inside the pumpkins, which prompts the animals to do a little exploring, too.

When the animals discover the pumpkins in their habitats, some start to paw and pounce, others dig into snacks, and others shred and smash the gourds within minutes.

Here's a peek at our pumpkin palooza with mandrills, gorillas, tigers, meerkats, hippos and more.

Earlier this month, Disney Tails at Marketplace Co-Op opened at Disney Springs. Disney Doodle: Moana Dresses Up For Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

In today's special Halloween edition of Disney Doodles, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what Moana would do if she could visit the Walt Disney World Resort.

According to Ashley Taylor, Moana is terrific at pulling together costumes, just as she did when she ventured with Maui into the Realm of Monsters to retrieve Maui's hook. So, she may seek out a place where she can show of her skills at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom Park.

"Moana wore a disguise to try to trick Tamatoa, so it's easy to imagine Moana wanting to wear that sparkly seashell outfit to Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party," Ashley said. "Especially if she can bring Pua along!"

All in the Details: Can You Solve the Mystery of the Dread Family?

Today we're sharing our final look at the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom Park, in which we learn the story behind a family of busts that appears in the mansion's cemetery. Not only does this family – the Dreads – feature a series of humorously unamused expressions – they also display a mystery right out in the open for guests to solve!

Family of busts in the cemetery at the Haunted Mansion

The tradition of busts appearing at the Haunted Mansion originated with the work of Disney Legends Marc Davis and Blaine Gibson in their original visual development of the attraction. According to Imagineer Steve Vagnini, there was once a plan to include a marble bust of the Ghost Host inside! In the version we know today, busts with wandering eyes follow you through the mansion's library and come to life during the "swinging wake" in the graveyard.

In today's video, provided by Walt Disney Imagineering, Imagineer Diana Brost lets us in on the storyline behind the Dread family, who appear as a family of busts in the cemetery. According to her, a murder mystery has been planted among the busts, ready and waiting for guests to solve. The Dread family was led by wealthy Uncle Jacob, who ended up succumbing to a mysterious poisoning. Guests who take the time to examine the smaller details of the busts and read the epitaphs underneath may be able to solve the mystery! According to Diana, guests who solve the mystery also may spot a callback to this storyline inside the mansion itself!

Check out the video above to hear all the "dreadful" details and see if you can solve the mystery on your next visit.

Disneyland Resort Horses Materialize at the Anaheim Halloween Parade

When shadows lengthen and bats fly out of a horse trailer, you know it's time for the annual Anaheim Halloween Parade!

This past Saturday, Disneyland Resort horses Bug and Finn, pulled a ghoulish black carriage and Circle D cast members donned Haunted Mansion costumes to add to the spooky-fun spirit. Inside the carriage was none other than Mickey Mouse in his vampire finery, along with Disneyland Resort Ambassador Alexa Garcia.

A community tradition since 1924, the Anaheim Halloween Parade provides an opportunity for young and old to enjoy an evening of unique entertainment and camaraderie.

Rosita Flying into The Tropical Hideaway in Disneyland Park

Disney Parks in Silhouette: Halloween at Magic Kingdom Park

Halloween is nearly upon us and earlier this fall, silhouette artist Keith Lapinig headed out to explore Magic Kingdom Park and Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party for a bit of artistic inspiration.

Orange Bird Silhouette helping with decorating Main Street for Halloween

Lock, Shock and Barrel Silhouettes at Magic Kingdom Park Yzma Silhouette at Magic Kingdom Park

This time of year, the front of the Train Station and Main Street, U.S.A., are brightened with Halloween decor, including fall-themed bunting, wreaths, larger-than-life pumpkins and scarecrows – which all served as terrific backdrops for some of Keith's creations.

"For Orange Bird, I was inspired by the new Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom card given out only at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, so I placed the Orange Bird helping with decorating Main Street for Halloween" Keith said. He also placed Minnie Mouse atop a pumpkin at the very front of the park (pictured at the very top), while Lock, Shock and Barrel from Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" had some fun of their own.

"They're my favorite trick-or-treating characters," Keith said. "So I placed them getting ready to go around all of the Magic Kingdom hoping to fill up their entire bathtub with candies."

Later on down Main Street, U.S.A., Yzma adjusted a fall wreath.

Sinister Shadows Silhouette at Magic Kingdom Park

Over in Liberty Square, Keith imagined the Sinister Shadows waiting on the call of their friend, Dr. Facilier.

"Inspired by the 'Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular' at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, I wanted to conjure up some of Dr. Facilier's sinister shadows in Liberty Square," Keith sad. "I imagine them lurking here before it's showtime when Dr. Facilier calls them up."

The villainous fun continued as the sun set and the heat rose on Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which Keith imagined being taken over by more characters from Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas."

Oogie Boogie Silhouette watches over the Magic Kingdom Park

"Oogie Boogie watches over the Magic Kingdom and waits patiently for the sun to set so he may come out and play during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party," Keith said.

Jack Skellington Silhouette at Magic Kingdom Park

And last, but not least, Jack Skellington made his debut.

"The fountains in the hub serve as the ideal grand entrance for the Pumpkin King himself for any Halloween festivities, so I had a lot of fun putting this together when there was no sun out," Keith said.

Disney Doodle: Jafar Makes Waves at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park

This weekend edition of Disney Doodles takes a look at what Jafar from "Aladdin" might do if he had the chance to visit Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.

According to artist Ashley Taylor, the idea for this Disney Doodle came from the idea that this Disney villain is always trying to interrupt the fun.

"Jafar is always making waves!" Ashley said. "It's easy to imagine him trying to disrupt Typhoon Lagoon's tranquil atmosphere."

Former Mouseketeers Celebrate the Opening of World of Disney in Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort

A few familiar faces joined us this morning for the grand reopening of the World of Disney store in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort. Former Mouseketeers Sharon Baird, Bobby Burgess, Tommy Cole, Cubby O'Brien and Sherry van Meter were on hand to celebrate.

The original "Mickey Mouse Club" television series debuted in 1955, just a few months after Walt Disney's biggest project to date, Disneyland park, opened to the public. The hour-long show featured an entertaining cast of kids, also known as Mouseketeers!

New 'Mickey Mouse Club'-inspired collection is now available at the World of Disney stores at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts

As we revealed last week, a new "Mickey Mouse Club"-inspired collection is now available at the World of Disney stores at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. Mickey Mouse is featured in this classic-yet-modern collection of fashionable apparel and Mouse-themed accessories.

"It's an honor to be a part of this wonderful opening," said Sherry van Meter (née Alberoni). "It's exciting, it's so nice to see so many fans; people that the Mickey Mouse Club meant so much to. I think [the 'Mickey Mouse Club' collection] is terrific and beautiful. Everything is in such good taste and such good quality. I love it!"

This collection, along with an unmatched selection of other merchandise, await guests visiting World of Disney. Check out the flagship stores in Downtown Disney at the Disneyland Resort and Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort!

Disney Vacation Club Moms Panel Moments: Comforts of Home with Family

Our Disney Parks Moms Panelist and Disney Vacation Club Member Tania is back to talk about how Disney Vacation Club properties provide many of the comforts of "home" while being close to the Theme Park magic. Tania especially loves the full kitchens in most Disney Vacation Club villa accommodations, allowing time for her multi- generational family to gather and cook and play games after a full day at the parks. She cherishes the family time and memories made in the midst of the magic.

World of Disney Reopens in Grand Style in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort

Sprinkled with pixie dust, magical moments and eye-catching collections, the World of Disney store is officially open in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort! Its sister store at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World celebrates its grand reopening tomorrow, Oct. 27.

Last week, Steven Miller provided a fantastic first glimpse of the reimagined stores. Now, let's take a closer look! We had the chance to interview the cast members, who spent more than a year in design and development, to create this elevated shopping experience. Learn more about the wonderful World of Disney from these creative minds:

The reimagined World of Disney makes shopping easier and more fun. The transformation begins with the store's exterior, which features new marquees and magical window displays. Inside, guests discover an open atmosphere with uniquely themed areas. Inspiration comes from Walt Disney Animation Studios and legendary animators—with sketches, artwork and posters jumping to life. Let's not forget the shopping, which includes all the "must-have" Disney merchandise collections.

Grand redesign of World of Disney in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort

The grand redesign of World of Disney is just one of the many exciting new experiences part of the promenade-wide transformation of the Downtown Disney District. Other openings include Salt & Straw scoop shop, the newly-renovated upper level of Naples Ristorante e Bar and the upcoming debuts of Ballast Point brewery and Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes.

Watch the Disney Parks Blog Team Transform for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

Earlier this fall, the Disney Parks Blog team hosted a group of our readers at Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party – and if there's one thing our team loves to do, it's to dress up in costume.

This year, we chose a pirate theme for our group costume. Our looks were inspired by the new pirates who interact with guests sailing through Pirates of the Caribbean exclusively during Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

Check out the video above for a look inside our adventurous transformations.
