Disney Parks After Dark: Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room at Magic Kingdom Park

Tonight's Disney Parks "After Dark" image was snapped of Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park.

In this shot, which was snapped after park close, the "Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room" looks even more "enchanted" with that amazing moonlit sky behind it.

The attraction, which debuted on Magic Kingdom Park's opening day in 1971, offers a 10-minute musical spectacular performed by an enchanting cast of more than 225 choreographed Audio-Animatronics parrots, cockatoos, orchids, drumming Tikis and chanting wooden masks.

I love long holiday weekends, especially when I can spend time with my familia doing the things that we love to do together.

So for this upcoming Labor Day Weekend, these things are on our must-do list:

  • Enjoy time at the water parks! Summer is not complete without a visit to a Disney water park.
  • More time in the sun and water! If you are staying at a Disney resort, you need to spend a few hours – if not the whole day – at the pool?

Wildlife Wednesday: Meet Harper, One of the Gibbons at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

One of the most unique animal habitats at Disney's Animal Kingdom belongs to the gibbons in Asia. I could spend all day in this area watching the two distinctive species of gibbons – siamangs and white-cheeked gibbons – run, jump and climb around their very distinctive habitats that resemble ancient temples.

Gibbons, which are critically endangered, can rotate their arms in a complete circle, making it easy for them to swing swiftly. They also have opposable thumbs, making it easy for them to maneuver, carry and grab items with their hands. Their opposable big toes enable them to grasp and hold objects with their feet.

Lately, we've delighted in watching the gibbon family as Harper, who is just over 2 years old, grows up and becomes more independent. Our Science Operations Team is observing the gibbon family to learn more about how the group's social interactions change as Harper ages. Many of the animals you can see at Disney's Animal Kingdom have complex social hierarchies and relationships, such as mandrills, meerkats and elephants. We can learn a great deal about them and make the best decisions about their care by paying close attention to their behaviors.

Wildlife Wednesday: Meet Harper, One of the Gibbons at Disney's Animal Kingdom

White-cheeked gibbons go through a series of color changes as they grow from infants to adulthood. They are born a tan-blonde color to better blend in with their mothers, and then at about a year old, the young gibbons turn black. Males will stay black for the rest of their lives, but females go through another color change once they reach maturity at about 7 years old, when they turn back to tan.

Wildlife Wednesday: Meet Harper, One of the Gibbons at Disney's Animal Kingdom Wildlife Wednesday: Meet Harper, One of the Gibbons at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Our baby Harper has already completed her first color change, and her behavior has changed, too, which lets us know that she's growing up! Earlier, she spent most of her time with her mother, Melaka.

Now, she's not afraid to venture away from mom, and she often spends a lot of time wrestling with and chasing after her older brothers, Max and Murray.

First Look: Slinky Dog Dash Ride Vehicle Arrives At Disney’s Hollywood Studios

The Slinky Dog Dash attraction, currently under construction in Toy Story Land, celebrated a major milestone today – National Slinky Day – with the reveal of the coaster's first Slinky Dog ride vehicle.

Slinky Dog Dash is one of two major attractions coming to Toy Story Land, a 12-acre expansion that's set to open at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Summer 2018. In Toy Story Land, guests will shrink to the size of a toy and explore the world of Andy's backyard on two fun family attractions – Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers.

Slinky Dog Dash is a family coaster themed as if Andy built it in his backyard using his Mega Coaster Play Kit and some of his other favorite toys. The attraction's ride vehicles, inspired by the character of Slinky in the film, will send riders dipping, dodging and dashing around turns and drops Andy has created to stretch Slinky's coils to the max.

The second attraction, Alien Swirling Saucers, is designed as a toy play set that Andy got from Pizza Planet, inspired by the first "Toy Story" film. Aliens are flying around in their toy flying saucers and trying to capture your rocket toy vehicle using "The Claw."

Check out the video above for a look at the warm welcome the new ride vehicle received.

A Culinary Tour of Disney Explorers Lodge at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort

As readers of the Disney Parks Blog know, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort recently opened one of the most immersive resort hotels we've ever created – Disney Explorers Lodge. In addition to the amazing dĂ©cor and guest amenities, the food and beverage offerings have guests in Hong Kong telling us their stay was unlike anything else they've experienced.

So for all of you thirsty for adventure and hungry for discovery, I wanted to share a closer look at the three new eateries serving up more than 500 incredible dishes inside Disney Explorers Lodge, which celebrated its grand opening at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort in May. Legend has it that a stouthearted band of explorers founded this locale and each restaurant celebrates a culture experienced during their lifetime of travels. All of the restaurants share an innovative central kitchen design concept, showcasing the freshness of the ingredients and the skills of the chefs for all guests to see. Without further ado, here's a culinary tour around the Lodge.

Dragon Wind

Our first stop is Dragon Wind, a restaurant that relies on ancient knowledge to prepare rural and classical Provincial Chinese fare, with treasures from the explorers' journeys on the Silk Road adorning the space. Honoring the art of Feng Shui, the kitchen has five stations to reflect the five elements: metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Try out the delicious dim sum meal here among the company of Disney friends in their exploration-themed costumes as part of a Character Buffet.

Explorers Paella at World of Color Restaurant

Next on our tour is the World of Color Restaurant. This colorful eatery serves "world cuisine" with a taste of new and old worlds from across the Seas, Islands and Continents. You can even watch the food prepared fresh from the nearby open kitchen. The food is delicious (we highly recommend the Explorers Paella and Yuzu Crème Brulee) and incredible aromas from the nearby herb garden waft through the space, immersing you in the rich fragrance of lavender, rosemary and lemongrass.

Chart Room Café

The last stop on our tour is the Chart Room Cafe, a perfect place to enjoy a continental breakfast, salads and sandwiches, or made-to-order pastas. The peaceful atmosphere plays host to eclectic artifacts from around the world, and if you look up you'll notice the lighting fixture of constellations, which are used by explorers to find their way during long sea voyages.

Suitcase-shaped Traveler (Coffee Chocolate Cake) Binocular-shaped Explorer (Exotic Fruit Mousse Cake

All three of these restaurants offer epic dining adventures, not to mention 30 signature beverages created exclusively for Disney Explorers Lodge. From traditional comfort foods to the new and exotic, there is something for everyone to enjoy during their stay. If sweets are more your style, there are also delicious options that can be found at the Lodge: "Dream" and "Explorer." You can choose from options like the suitcase-shaped Traveler (Coffee Chocolate Cake) and binocular-shaped Explorer (Exotic Fruit Mousse Cake). Or try the local delicacy – a pineapple bun in the shape of Mickey.

Let us know in the comments below what you'd like to try at the Lodge and what your favorite meal is across Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

Walt Disney Company Pledges $1M to Hurricane Harvey Recovery Efforts

Earlier today, we announced that the Walt Disney Company and ABC television station KTRK-TV in Houston will be donating $1 million to the American Red Cross to help people affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Also, to benefit those impacted by the storm, Disney|ABC Television Group will be hosting a "Day of Giving" on August 31. A "Day of Giving" will begin on Thursday morning with ABC local affiliates and Good Morning America, and continue throughout the day on ABC, Freeform, Radio Disney. Across our social platforms, there will be a #DayofGiving call-to-action to donate to the American Red Cross, with those dollars going to benefit those most impacted.

"Our hearts go out to everyone in the devastating path of this historic storm," said Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer, The Walt Disney Company. "It's hard to fully appreciate the impact, in part because it isn't over yet. But we know thousands of people have lost everything and now face the daunting challenge of putting their lives and communities back together, and we're using our unique resources and reach to help those in need."

Eligible Disney employee donations to the American Red Cross and other qualified organizations involved in the Hurricane Harvey relief effort will be matched dollar for dollar by Disney Employee Matching Gifts: A Program of The Walt Disney Company Foundation.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the people of Houston and the communities affected by the storm.
