Live Music Expanding at Disneyland Park Beginning July 17

MSS799084

Music always has been very important to the guest experience at Disneyland, creating a magical connection to the Happiest Place on Earth. During the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, music will become an even bigger part of the storytelling within Disneyland park. Beginning July 17, the 60th anniversary of the Disneyland Resort, two changes are coming to our music program.

First, the beloved musical acts in Disneyland park will increase the number of performances throughout the day, and second, the iconic Disneyland Band will premiere a new sound – with new musical arrangements and themed performances – along with more musicians and high-energy choreography. These enhancements will provide a new level of musical entertainment throughout the day.

We’ll have more to share about the exciting updates coming to the Disneyland Band (including how Disneyland park guests will be able to join their performances!) so keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog.

Today we’re looking down Main Street, U.S.A., as work continues on bringing Walt’s dream of Disneyland to life.

I’ve always had such admiration for the people who literally put hammer to nail to build the park. Looking at these photos, I can’t help but wonder what their stories were and what pride they must have had in their unique place in Disney history.

Hippity Hoppity, Easter’s on the Way With Fun Foodie Ideas at Walt Disney World Resort

Big or small, there’s a way to celebrate Easter at Walt Disney World Resort. From specialty cupcakes in Magic Kingdom Park to an Easter egg parade at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and a garden party brunch at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, there’s something for everyone.

makmak654681

From March 29-April 11, Magic Kingdom Park guests can nibble a cupcake that’s almost too pretty to eat – carrot cake with cream cheese icing and a carrot piped on top, or a vanilla cupcake with a chocolate nest of malted milk eggs. And don’t forget the delicious white chocolate rabbit cupcake from Cheshire Café!

makmak758772

At Epcot, guests can pick up an adorable chocolate cupcake with marshmallow filling, marshmallow-buttercream frosting at Fountain View from March 29-April 11, and Sunshine Seasons April 4-5.

CEC8898471LARGE

A noon on March 31, join in the 3rd annual Disney’s Contemporary Resort Easter Egg Parade at Chef Mickey’s – the procession of pastry chefs starts in the restaurant, then their chocolate bunnies and beautifully decorated eggs are displayed through Easter on the fourth floor near the restaurant. There will also be a special cupcake April 3-5, featuring carrot cake with pineapple-coconut filling, white chocolate buttercream frosting, toasted coconut, jelly beans and a bunny macaron garnish.

makmak768993

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, fans of Boma — Flavors of Africa will be happy to hear that hours are extended on Easter Sunday, April 5, from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. And ‘tis the season for sweets, with a table laden with goodies – chocolate peanut butter eggs, jelly beans, kisses, chocolate miniatures so that breakfast guests can make a little take-home box.

Over at Kidani Village at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, the Palace Library at Kidani Village is being converted to “Library Lounge” during this bustling season, open from 4 p.m.–midnight and offering Sanaa appetizers and cocktails (not on the Disney Dining Plan). It’s the perfect place to beat the heat with a pretty savannah view.

makmak758774

Guests of the resort can enjoy the Maji Pool Bar Cookout from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. daily (weather permitting) March 28-April 12: burgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, bratwurst and a chicken burger by the pool (on the Disney Dining Plan). Look for some fun entertainment too.

makmak868775

At Disney’s BoardWalk, try the Easter cupcake from BoardWalk Bakery. Vanilla cake with raspberry panna cotta filling, topped with a cute coconut “nest” with jelly beans.

Three seasonal brunches are open for booking. The 1900 Park Fare Brunch at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will be from 1-3 p.m. daily March 29-April 5. No Disney characters, just an enjoyable mid-day spread of delicious goodies.

Disney Awards $4.5 million to Benefit Central Florida Community Groups

qwerty654321

Disney’s “Giving Side” hit a high note in Central Florida today as we awarded more than $4.5 million in Disney Grants that will positively impact the lives of more than 250,000 local children and their families. During a special ceremony this morning that culminated with a blast of confetti, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse helped recognize 102 community groups that strengthen families, bring hope and comfort to children, encourage creativity, promote economic development and meet the needs of diverse communities.

qwerty654132

Taking the stage at the new Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Orlando, Walt Disney World Resort President George A. Kalogridis and Walt Disney World Resort Director of Corporate Citizenship Nancy Gidusko announced the organizations receiving Disney Grants. The grant recipients, who enjoyed a serenade of hope-filled songs by Disney performers, each received a special “Mousecar” to commemorate Disney’s support.

Disney also presented the Bob Allen Award — an annual honor that recognizes the creativity and outstanding service of a Central Florida charitable organization — to the Community Hope Center of Osceola County. The nonprofit will use the grant to continue serving local homeless families through case management, life skills training and living essentials.

From a personal perspective, it warms my heart to know Disney has supported the work of Central Florida’s community groups for more than four decades. Each year, I look forward to the Disney Grants announcement, which gives us the chance to put the spotlight on these dedicated organizations … and all the ways they’re making our community even better.

Name Revealed for Baby Rhino at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!

Just a few weeks ago, we asked you, the Disney Parks Blog readers, to help us name the newest female baby rhino at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. You spread the message far and wide and over the past week thousands of votes poured in.

0313ZY_0145DR (1)

While my vote was for ‘Alora’, I’m excited to announce that the winning name is Kiama! It was the overwhelming majority with more than half of the votes.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts in the comments section. Some of you shared that you were excited to hear about our conservation work with rhinos and other species around the world. We also learned that many from the city of Kiama in New South Wales, Australia, were excited to see the name of their town as an option. (While I’ve never been to this city in person, after looking at a few photos online, I’d love to visit).

This precious girl will continue to bond and grow with her mom backstage for a few more months, but stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for updates and more information as we near her on-stage debut.

Make the Most Out of Your Time Together on an Adventures by Disney Long Weekend

Who doesn’t love the weekend? Offering a respite from the hustling and bustling of a busy week, the weekend is a breath of fresh air, especially if a getaway is involved. Adventures by Disney Long Weekend vacations will make you look forward to the weekend like never before. Whether you’re dog sledding in Wyoming or attending a Broadway dance workshop in New York City, these weekend adventures are nothing short of a dream.

And, best of all, we’ve done all the planning for you. All you have to do is pack your bags, and then enjoy!

neqneq368771

New York City

Give your regards to Broadway as you tour the “City That Never Sleeps” on this 4-day, 3-night weekend extravaganza in New York City. From learning a Broadway dance routine in a private rehearsal studio to getting backstage access to “Good Morning America” at Disney’s Times Square Studios, you are sure to feel like a true VIP while visiting this iconic city. You’ll also tour some of New York City’s most famous sites, including Times Square and Harlem, and savor time strolling through the jaw-dropping Central Park. Discover the enchantment of New York City, and be impressed that you did it all in one weekend!

Winter in Wyoming

Setting off on a dog sled tour, gliding along on a sleigh ride and exploring a snowy Yellowstone National Park all in one weekend? That’s my idea of a winter wonderland! The Adventures by Disney Winter in Wyoming Long Weekend is nothing short of tremendous thrills and excitement. And I haven’t even mentioned my favorite part about this trip (the dog sled tour is a close second), which is enjoying a relaxing dip in granite hot springs! The sites and thrills you will discover on this 5-day, 4-night getaway will make you want winter to last forever (or maybe just a week longer.)

neqneq7654332

Nashville

Get ready to channel your inner country superstar as you venture to the “capital of country music”, Nashville, Tennessee, on this 4-day, 3-night weekend getaway. Between a private backstage tour at the Grand Ole Opry and recording a song in the famous RCA Studio B, you’re sure to feel like you are country music’s next big thing. When you’re not busy becoming a music legend, devour a true country breakfast at Puckett’s Grocery and Restaurant, and tour the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum (your records may be in there one day).

neqneq754663

San Francisco

Breathe in the fresh California air and soak up big city sites and surreal landscapes as you visit the “City by the Bay”, also known as San Francisco. On this 4-day, 3-night getaway you’ll tour the famous San Francisco Bay, go on a magical privately guided tour of the Walt Disney Family Museum, be in awe as you gaze up at the coastal redwoods at Muir Woods National Monument and join “The Force” as you visit Lucasfilm. And I saved my favorite part of this getaway for last – you’ll also enjoy the picturesque scenery (and the decadent wine) during your visit to Silverado Vineyards in the famous Napa Valley. This is truly an adventurous, yet relaxing, weekend getaway.

Spring Time Treats at the Disneyland Resort

Spring is here! Flowers are in bloom, eggs will soon be hidden and you may even find yourself catching a glimpse of a bunny or two. We did! These magnificent treats will debut in candy kitchen locations around the Disneyland Resort this April, so be sure to “hop” by!

aciaci736881

If you’re curious as to how these creations came to life, I have the inside scoop. The Bunny apples are dipped in caramel, then, are intricately dressed with mini marshmallows to create the effect for the mouth and tail. Dip them in white chocolate, add a little sanding sugar (especially on the top of the marshmallow ears). The final touch, a few well-placed (and sometimes colorful) chocolate candies that create the eyes and nose.

Of course, the egg pops are a treat in themselves! The egg-shaped cake pops have been dipped in white chocolate and dressed with milk chocolate discs to create the ears. Finally with the help of some (colorful pixie dust) sanding sugar, and some simple decoration, they’re set!

If you’re curious what gourmet apple will line the shelves, it will once again be the dark chocolate raspberry apple. That’s right Disney fans, it’s back!

aciaci657662

The apples will be smothered in caramel, enrobed in dark chocolate and drizzled with white chocolate and raspberry infused white chocolate. You want more? Great! We literally have you covered from top to bottom. How? The top of the apple, as well as the bottom third of the apple have been encased with a mixture of white chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and chopped roasted almonds.

Look for all of these treats and more at Candy Palace in Disneyland park; Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure park; and Marceline’s Confectionery in the Downtown Disney District!

Which one will you try?

Fairytale Experiences in St. Petersburg, Russia and Stockholm, Sweden with Disney Cruise Line

We’re just two months away from our first Baltic cruise of the summer season! In my last post, I told you about adventures in Helsinki and Estonia, so today I’ll give you a glimpse into the family fun we offer in St. Petersburg and Stockholm. We’ve developed special fairytale experiences to immerse your family in the royal and storybook settings you’ll find throughout these culturally rich cities.

babbab746981

St. Petersburg was founded by Peter the Great, who was inspired to build a metropolis like the cultural centers of Western Europe. The city has retained much of its opulence and historic architecture and is renowned for its storied history and cultural heritage.

babbab869882

To experience the majesty of the area firsthand, you won’t want to miss our Royal Ball at Catherine’s Palace, one of the world’s most amazing royal palaces. You’ll be greeted by Royal Guards before entering the lavish palace, where you’re invited to relive the luxury of the 18th-century Imperial Russian court. After a welcome reception and time to explore the immense collection of fabulous art work and furnishings, the highlight of your evening will include mingling with “Catherine the Great” and dancing along with the “Royal Court” in the Grand Hall, set to the sounds of classical music with a live orchestra!

Another spectacular experience that will make you feel like royalty is our evening at the Hermitage Museum with a private concert. This tour of the world-famous Hermitage Museum, founded by Catherine the Great with her personal art collection, is privately reserved for Disney cruisers, giving you the chance to view the museum’s beautiful collections without the crowds. It concludes with an exclusive performance by the incredibly talented State Hermitage Orchestra.

babbab846443

Stockholm is a picturesque city with fascinating medieval sites, lush parks and a charming waterfront area. The city is built on several islands at the mouth of Lake Mälaren and boasts more than 100 museums devoted to the preservation and display of European paintings, sculptures and handicrafts. In the city’s Old Town (“Gamla Stan”), you’ll discover ancient streets, centuries-old churches and cathedrals and breathtaking palaces and mansions.

babbab765444

On our Ice Bar and Old Town excursion, not only will you have the chance to experience the grandeur of Gamla Stan’s baroque, medieval and renaissance-style construction, you’ll also visit the unique Ice Bar in the heart of Stockholm. Kept to a cool 23 degrees Fahrenheit, the interior, drinking glasses and chairs are made of pure ice. But don’t worry about turning into ice yourself since you’ll don a warm fur poncho and mittens before entering!

Those of you traveling with little ones will love visiting the Junibacken Children’s Museum, a fairy-tale museum dedicated to Sweden’s much-loved author Astrid Lindgren, who has written around 100 children’s books. Both our Knights and Fairytales and Skansen Museum and Swedish Fairytales Port Adventures take you to this whimsical museum where your family can play in Pippi Longstocking’s funny house and take a trip on the Story Train to meet more of the author’s beloved characters.

Of course these are only some of the many exciting excursions we offer in St. Petersburg and Stockholm. Those of you joining us this summer, which Port Adventures are on deck for your family?
