Walt Disney World Resort Celebrates Earth Month

'Environmentality' is a huge part of who we are at Walt Disney World Resort; it is our commitment to do what is right for the environment and to act with the environment in mind.

I'm proud that we put this philosophy into practice every day in our work across the resort and in the community. Over the past month, we've celebrated these efforts as part of Earth Month and joined together with cast and guests to make a difference.

Disney VoluntEARS

What an Earth Month it has been! Some highlights include:

  • The announcement of a new 270-acre, 50-megawatt solar facility expected to go online by the end of the year that will generate enough renewable clean energy to power two of the four theme parks.
  • Cast members lending a helping hand to nature by maintaining trails and planting trees through Disney VoluntEARS events at the Oakland Nature Preserve and Lake Louisa State Park in Central Florida.
  • Guests enjoying "Party for the Planet" activities at Disney's Animal Kingdom as they participate in fun photo experiences, get a glimpse behind the scenes at Rafiki's Planet Watch, enjoy specially themed food and merchandise and much more.
  • Dining and getting the inside scoop on Disney's animal care and conservation efforts during special Tiffins Talks, which feature a delicious meal with an animal expert.

Although Earth Month is over, thinking and acting with the environment in mind all year long is something we strive to do each and every day. We invite you to join us on our journey in preserving the environment by following these tips while you're visiting Walt Disney World Resort:

  • If you're staying at one of our resorts, take the bus! Our buses run on a renewable diesel made from used cooking oil and non-consumable food waste. If you catch a ride in one of these magical coaches, you're helping to reduce emissions by taking additional vehicles off the road.
  • Recycle your plastic drink bottles, cans, paper and glass in one of the theme parks, Disney Springs or in your resort room.
  • Consider combining all of your favorite Disney purchases into one of our 100 percent recycled content bags or choose reusable bags.
  • Conserve water if you're staying in a Walt Disney World Resort hotel by reusing your towel; just make sure to hang it up when you're done.

Even if you're at home, you can practice some of these eco-friendly tips to help around your neighborhood.
