‘Dream Big, Princess’ Movement Continues to Inspire Girls to Dream

Since it first launched in 2016, Disney's "Dream Big, Princess" movement has inspired young dreamers around the world to realize their full potential. You can meet your favorite princesses at our Disney Parks and Resorts around the world and discover how their unique qualities helped them achieve their dreams, like Ariel's courage to explore new worlds or Cinderella's determination to never give up.

Through these great stories, "Dream Big, Princess" continues to inspire girls everywhere to dream, create and celebrate who they are by giving them the role models we all know and love.

For every girl who dreams big, there's a princess to show her it's possible. A princess is someone who befriends the lonely, never gives up and explores new and exciting worlds. She sets an example for all girls to have the courage to make their dreams real, the strength to protect our planet and the wisdom to believe in themselves and what they can accomplish if they dare to dream big.

Follow along during the second year of "Dream Big, Princess" on Instagram and Facebook.

There's a new dish at Satu'li Canteen in Pandora – The World of Avatar. The Satu'li Sampler Platter serves four and gives Disney's Animal Kingdom guests an opportunity to sample all the variations of the Satu'li Create-Your-Own Bowl (48 possible combos). Platter comes with all four bases (Quinoa & Vegetable Salad, Rice & Grains, Red & Sweet Potato Hash, Kale & Romaine Salad and Crunchy Slaw with Bursting Boba Pearls). Guests may choose up to four proteins; Wood Fired Chopped Chicken, Spicy Fried Tofu, Sustainable Fish and Sliced Chargrilled Roast Beef. Guests also receive three sauces (Black Bean, Green Onion Vinaigrette, and Creamy Herb) and fountain drinks. You might say, there's something for every member of the family to love.

At Disney's Animal Kingdom, Harambe Fruit Market has added corn-on-the-cob to the menu. The corn is flame-grilled on-site, butter-dipped (Ok, butter-dipped – what's not to love?) and with curry flavor.

Moms Panel Monday: It’s a ‘Very Merrytime’ with Disney Cruise Line

This week we are finishing up our Christmas in July series with Disney Cruise Line. There is nothing quite so magical as celebrating the holiday season on the high seas. During November and December, Disney Cruise Line offers special Very Merrytime Cruises aboard all fours ships, with sailings from Florida, Texas and New York. These festive sailings are a favorite of Disney Parks Moms Panel Disney Cruise Line Specialist Nancy W.

She can't say enough about the holiday décor during this special time of the year. "I love how Disney Cruise Line decks out their ships from stem to stern with uniquely themed wreaths, garland and Christmas trees in the youth clubs, lounges and dining venues," remarked Nancy W. "You could spend hours just checking out all the holiday decor on your Very Merrytime Cruise! There are so many beautiful backdrops for your photos especially if you plan on using one for your holiday card! And if you decide on taking your holiday photo onboard, make sure to bring something festive for you family to wear!"

Guests can get involved in the decorating as well. One special family gets the chance to light up the beautiful 24-foot Christmas tree in the atrium during Mickey's Tree Lighting Ceremony. You may also smell one of Nancy W.'s favorite holiday décor items as soon as you get onboard. The life-sized gingerbread house is completely made from edible ingredients, but no snacking! An interesting fact from Nancy W., the gingerbread house is created by chefs onboard in late November. It is truly a site to see … and smell! Guests will get a chance to get a gingerbread making lesson of their own. "As a family, we work together to create a gingerbread masterpiece at the Gingerbread House Making activity hosted by one of the onboard chefs! The chef takes you step-by-step through the process allowing you to customize your creation with colorful candies and delicious frosting!" says Nancy W.

But there is so much more than gorgeous decorations during this festive cruise. According to Nancy, your favorite Disney characters also get in the holiday spirit. "The Characters also get into the spirit of the season with several adorable holiday outfits! I always love an opportunity to get a Character photo in unique clothing," exclaimed Nancy. "And I highly recommend finishing your holiday shopping at the gift shops onboard. There are some exclusive holiday-themed items that will make great presents for your Disney loving friends and family."

Very Merrytime Cruises with Disney Cruise Line

"My crew loves the special holiday events on the Very Merrytime Cruises especially seeing how low we can go during the Candy Cane Limbo and how long we can hula throughout the Holiday Hula Hoop during the Deck the Deck Tropical Party" said Nancy W. She recommends getting a front row seat to the Winter Wonderland Ball, a festive show that takes place in the atrium.

Families can also catch the Dicken's Carolers singing festive tunes around the ship, listen to the storytellers tell tales of Holiday traditions from around the world or hear a festive tale from Mrs. Claus. Plus, don't miss your chance to take your picture with Santa Claus himself!

If your sailing takes you to Disneys Castaway Cay, you will enjoy the magic of the season there as well. Snow flurries will fall and be sure keep an eye out for Mr. and Mrs. Snowman. Nancy and her family enjoy capturing a photo with this duo and love taking a ride on the island's tram that is decorate to resemble a reindeer … complete with antlers and a tail!

Begin to Dream with Retro-Inspired Merchandise for 35th Anniversary of Epcot This Fall

This October, Epcot celebrates its 35th Anniversary at Walt Disney World Resort. To commemorate this milestone occasion, the Disney Parks Merchandise team has created a retro-inspired merchandise collection that captures the essence of a spirited phrase from Epcot's beginnings, "We've just begun to dream." I spoke with Eric Caszatt, Creative Manager with the Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Creative Group, about how research played an important role when designing artwork for this collection.

Merchandise for 35th Anniversary of Epcot

"Many of the artists on my team are long-time Epcot fans," explained Eric. "We wanted the art to have a distinct vintage feeling, and take its cues from artwork, logos, signage, and in-park graphics found in the early 1980s. We also referenced actual merchandise released during the first few years of operation. Many products then did not incorporate Disney characters into the artwork with the exception of Figment from the Journey Into Imagination attraction. I'm excited to see several products being released this fall can trace their heritage back to those original items."

Merchandise for 35th Anniversary of Epcot Merchandise for 35th Anniversary of Epcot

One of the art team's most noticeable nods to original Epcot is their use of five colors – purple, pink, red, orange, and gold. These colors were prominently featured on a variety of opening year products, from license plates to coffee mugs to jewelry boxes (you can see some of those items in this article). The anniversary artwork has the same colors with more muted tones, further enhancing the vintage look of items.

Eric said some products may include "EPCOT Center" in their designs. The art team used the theme park's original name when a new item was directly inspired by an original merchandise product such as the youth and women's "35" T-shirts, or the long sleeve shirt with Spaceship Earth graphic.

Fans of Figment will be delighted to find several items with the loveable purple dragon. Look for a leather backpack, a wristlet, a logo pin, and apparel.

Other products have incorporated the EPCOT Center logo that "symbolizes unity, fellowship and harmony around the world." Guests will also find original Future World pavilion logos on select products such as a baseball cap or a mystery pin set.

The Epcot 35th Anniversary collection will be released in late September in select locations throughout Epcot. Guests may also find select items via the Shop Disney Parks app once released.

Stay tuned to Disney Parks Blog in the coming weeks for additional looks at products created especially for October 1, 2017.

9 Dishes You Don’t Want to Miss at the 2017 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival at Walt Disney World Resort

We're counting down the days to Aug. 31 and the opening of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. And with 75 days this year, there's plenty of time to sip and taste your way through the 35 Marketplaces circling World Showcase Lagoon and stretching into Future World.

Still, the sheer amount of food and drink can be overwhelming, so we'll give you a head start by sharing our favorites from the multiple chef tastings of new dishes and from working on the new cookbook for this year's festival.

In no special order, here are nine new tastes that we recommend not missing at this year's festival:
Crispy Chicken with Griddled Cornbread and Red-Eye Gravy
1. Crispy Chicken with Griddled Cornbread and Red-Eye Gravy at the Farm Fresh Marketplace is the trifecta of Southern cooking.
2. Sounds kooky, but the Teriyaki-glazed SPAM® Hash with Potatoes, Peppers, Onions and Spicy Mayonnaise is a winner in the Hawai'i Marketplace.
3. The Bougatsa at the Greece Marketplace is ethereal: warm phyllo strudel with sweet vanilla custard, lemon honey syrup and cinnamon. East dessert first!
4. The Madras Red Curry with Roasted Cauliflower, Baby Carrots, Chickpeas, and Basmati Rice in the India Marketplace is vegetarian, gluten friendly and delicious.
5. Spain Marketplace gives us the perfect carry-around nibble: Charcuterie in a Cone with a selection of imported Spanish meats, cheeses and olives with an herb vinaigrette.
Sweet Olive Oil Cake with Powdered Sugar and Lemon Curd
6. Spain gave us another new favorite, the Sweet Olive Oil Cake with Powdered Sugar and Lemon Curd. Sublime.
7. If you love the Cheddar Cheese soup at Le Cellier, the Warm Irish Cheddar Cheese and Stout Dip with Irish Brown Bread at the Ireland Marketplace will make you happy. Nicely pairs with the new Guinness Blonde American Lager.
8. We're fans of the Cauliflower Risotto with Pulled Chicken, Artichokes, Spinach, Parmesan Cheese and Aged Balsamic at the new Almond Orchard Hosted by Blue Diamond Almond Breeze. (They're also pouring Dom Pérignon and Vueve Cliquot at this Marketplace.)
eared Scallops with Roasted Corn and Butterbean Succotash and Chili-chipotle Butter Sauce
9. Scallop fans will love the Seared Scallops with Roasted Corn and Butterbean Succotash and Chili-chipotle Butter Sauce at the new Coastal Eats Marketplace. They're pairing the dish with a nice pinot gris from Oregon.

The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival dates are Aug. 31- Nov. 13. The Party for the Senses grand tasting events, signature dinners and other special wine and culinary programs require reservations and separate event admission. Guests can call 407/WDW-FEST (939-3378) and get details at EpcotFoodFestival.com.

Disney Doodle: The Country Bears Visit Mickey’s Backyard BBQ

In our Disney Doodles series, our team of Disney artists take turns imaging what our Disney characters would do or see first if they had the chance to visit a Disney Park.

In today's Doodle, artist Ashley Taylor imagines what the County Bears would do if they had the chance to choose a food & beverage location here at Walt Disney World Resort.

According to her, they'd likely choose something outdoorsy and full of fun entertainment.

"The Country Bears love any type of hoedown!" she said. "It's easy to imagine them having the time of their lives eating, singing and sharing stories at Mickey's Backyard BBQ!"

This Week in Disney Parks Photos: Disneyland Railroad and Rivers of America Reopen at Disneyland Park

Classic attractions have returned to Disneyland park with today's official reopening of the Disneyland Railroad and Rivers of America attractions. Yesterday, we celebrated in grand style – with some special guests!

Disneyland Railroad

John Lasseter, Principal Creative Advisor for Walt Disney Imagineering, kicked off the celebration with his own train, the Marie E, making a special trip around Disneyland park. The Marie E was previously owned by Lasseter's mentor, animator and Disney Legend Ollie Johnston – one of Walt Disney's "Nine Old Men." In tow was the Chloe, formerly owned by another of Disney's "Nine Old Men," animator and Disney Legend Ward Kimball, whose passion for the railroad inspired Walt's own love of trains.

Disneyland Railroad

These classic engines were followed by the Disneyland Railroad itself, full of Disney characters and Disneyland park cast members, as fireworks shot into the blue summer sky and the train traveled across the brand-new elevated trestle above the beautiful new north bank of the Rivers of America.

Experience the return of these classics for yourself aboard the Disneyland Railroad, Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia and Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes, now open at Disneyland park!

LEGENDARY DISNEY IMAGINEER MARTY SKLAR DIES AT 83

Legendary Disney Imagineer Martin A. "Marty" Sklar passed away in his Hollywood Hills home on Thursday. He was 83. During an illustrious career spanning 54 years, Marty worked closely with Walt Disney and was instrumental in creating, enhancing and expanding Disney's creative vision. Named a Disney Legend in 2001, he is best remembered and revered by fans around the world for his work bringing Disney's theme parks to life.

"Everything about Marty was legendary – his achievements, his spirit, his career," said Bob Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company. "He embodied the very best of Disney, from his bold originality to his joyful optimism and relentless drive for excellence. He was also a powerful connection to Walt himself. No one was more passionate about Disney than Marty and we'll miss his enthusiasm, his grace, and his indomitable spirit."

Born in New Brunswick, N.J., on February 6, 1934, Marty was a student at UCLA and editor of its Daily Bruin newspaper when he was recruited to create The Disneyland News for Walt's new theme park in 1955. After graduating in 1956, he joined Disney full-time, and would go on to serve as Walt's right-hand man—scripting speeches, marketing materials, and a film showcasing Walt's vision for Walt Disney World and Epcot. During this period, he also joined WED Enterprises, the forerunner of Walt Disney Imagineering, and he would later become the creative leader of Imagineering, leading the development of Disney theme parks and attractions for the next three decades. He retired as Executive Vice President and Imagineering Ambassador on July 17, 2009, Disneyland's 54th birthday. Disney marked the occasion by paying tribute to Marty with the highest Parks and Resorts recognition, dedicating a window in his name on Disneyland's City Hall.

"Marty was the ultimate Disney Imagineer and Cast Member. From his days working as an intern with Walt to just two weeks ago engaging with fans at D23 Expo, Marty left an indelible mark on Disney Parks around the globe and on all of the guests who make memories every day with us," said Bob Chapek, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "He was one of the few people that was fortunate to attend the opening of every single Disney park in the world, from Anaheim in 1955 to Shanghai just last year. We will dearly miss Marty's passion, skill and imaginative spark that inspired generations of Cast, Crew and Imagineers."

Bob Weis was one of those Imagineers. "Marty was one of Walt's most trusted advisors and helped turn his most ambitious dreams into reality. For us, it's hard to imagine a world without Marty, because Marty is synonymous with Imagineering," said Weis, President, Walt Disney Imagineering. "His influence can be seen around the world, in every Disney park, and in the creative and imaginative work of almost every professional in the themed entertainment industry."

Marty's impact and achievements were recognized with a number of prestigious awards and accolades, including the Lifetime Achievement award from TEA (Themed Entertainment Association), induction into the Hall of Fame of IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions), and the prestigious Professional Achievement Award from UCLA.

He also authored several books about his experiences and adventures at Disney: Dream It! Do It!: My Half-Century Creating Disney's Magic Kingdoms (2013), and One Little Spark!: Mickey's Ten Commandments and The Road to Imagineering (2015).

Marty is survived by his wife of 60 years, Leah; son Howard and his wife, Katriina Koski-Sklar; grandchildren Gabriel and Hannah; daughter Leslie; and grandchildren Rachel and Jacob.

Marty and Leah were two of the founders of the Ryman Program for Young Artists, a project of Ryman Arts, a nonprofit foundation whose purpose is to teach and mentor "traditional" drawing and painting skills to talented young artists in Southern California. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Marty's name to Ryman Arts at www.rymanarts.org.

Mission: SPACE ‘Relaunches’ Aug. 13 With Brand New Experiences

One of my "must-dos" at Epcot is Mission: SPACE.

Now, I'm not ACTUALLY a big thrill-ride person, but I LOVE the feeling of lift off and the expanse of looking at the Earth from outer space. It's breathtaking.

I was there when we "launched" it in 2003 and myself – along with tens of thousands of other guests have loved the authentic, NASA-style training and space travel aboard the Mission: SPACE "rocket."

So, now there's even MORE to love.

Starting Aug. 13, we will relaunch the attraction with a brand new experience and an enhanced version of the "classic" Mission: SPACE.

  • If you think you've got "the right stuff," take on the Orange Mission for a truly intense experience that lets you feel the force of an actual space launch en route to Mars. On this mission, you'll dodge meteoroids, slingshot around the moon and attempt a precision landing on the Red Planet's alien surface. This "mission" has been enhanced with new, HD video to make it even clearer – I can't imagine!
  • Or, embark on the more family-friendly Green Mission – a new mission that takes you on an exciting orbit around Earth. On this amazing new adventure, you'll take in sites like the Hawaiian Islands, Italy's "boot" and the Northern Lights—as seen from space, of course—before finally landing at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. No matter which mission you choose, it'll be a journey that's totally out of this world.

In addition to all the "mission" updates, our partners at Walt Disney Imagineering have also made this attraction MORE family-friendly. Younger astronauts can now ride – the height restriction will be changed for the Green Mission side with the addition of new X-2 booster seats allowing children 40-44" to ride.

Keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog for all the info on exciting changes coming to Epcot.

Endless Virtual Backgrounds Available at the Disney PhotoPass Studio at Disney Springs

The Disney PhotoPass Studio located in the Disney Springs Marketplace is a favorite among princesses and knights who have visited Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, but you don't have to be on your way to the ball to have your photo taken here!

You can take a classic – or goofy – family or individual portrait on one of our standard backdrops.

If you're looking for a slightly more specialized photo experience, this studio also offers those of all ages the opportunity to pose in front of virtual backdrops using a green-screen technique.
