When the Disney Magic returns to Europe this summer, we're taking you to even more destinations, including a first-time visit to Amsterdam, Netherlands. From May through September this year and next, our grand tour of Europe will journey through the Baltic, Norwegian fjords, Iceland, British Isles and the Mediterranean. Over the next several weeks, I'll be giving you suggestions on incredible Port Adventures you won't want to miss.
Today let's start with Amsterdam, known for its elaborate canal system, tulip fields, windmills and world-class museums housing works by Rembrandt, Vermeer and Van Gogh. We offer several great sightseeing tours, many that include a canal boat ride, for those who want to fully explore this world-famous capital city. But if you're looking for an authentic and one-of-a-kind Dutch experience, consider joining a Port Adventure that takes you beyond modern-day Amsterdam and immerses you in old-world culture.
Volendam and Wooden Shoe Workshop – During your adventure in Volendam, a charming harbor town renowned for its wooden shoes and traditional Dutch culture, enjoy a visit to a shoemaker's workshop to see how the Netherland's famous clogs are crafted and decorated. This cultural experience is completed by a delicious Dutch-style three-course lunch at a local restaurant, a guided tour of the village and free time to explore the old boats, fresh fish displays and famous traditional costumes. One of the best parts? You'll return back to the Disney Magic with your own pair of Dutch wooden shoes!
Grand Holland Tour & Delft Pottery Workshop – This hands-on adventure also takes you through the beautiful Netherlands countryside – dotted with windmills, canals and farms – to a charming Dutch town. After free time in Delft, home of the country's famed blue and white pottery, step into an earthenware workshop where you can try your hand at painting your own Dutch pottery to take home. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and a visit to The Hague on your way back to the ship.
Paint Like Van Gogh – As part of your visit to the museum touted to house the greatest number of works by Vincent van Gogh, one of the greatest painters in history, you'll have the chance to paint your own Impressionist masterpiece. After a guided tour where you can view the largest collection of original paintings by Van Gogh in the world, your art teacher will discuss the painter's life, art and technique. Then you'll transform into a true painter and work on your own Van Gogh-style painting to take home as a souvenir.
